Opening of the 105th Theater Season

We are excited to announce that the 105th theater season will soon be underway at our theater, kicking off with a week-long celebration of Ukrainian classics!

Shevchenko's "Kateryna", directed by Serhii Pavliuk, tells the story of a Ukrainian woman who, despite warnings, falls in love with a Russian soldier. Moskal goes on a campaign, promising to return, but ultimately fails to keep his word. Instead, he engages in robbing, raping, and killing. Kateryna gives birth to a son while her native village and family reject her. The play explores themes of love, waiting, contempt, exile, wandering, disappointment, and death. It also showcases traditional Ukrainian customs and rites, as well as the societal attitudes towards veiled women and the misfortune of children without parents. Through this production, Mykola Kulish's Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater and Mykolaiiv Academic Art Drama Theater highlight the Russian disdain for Ukrainians across the centuries, from the time of Kobzar to the present day.

The family-friendly musical "Kotyhoroshko against the Vikings" is a joint project between the Kherson and Mykolaiv theaters. This interactive performance features bright costumes, elements of shadow theater, and witty jokes! The story follows an ordinary boy who may not be physically strong but has a surprisingly kind heart and strong spirit. Kotyhoroshko becomes the only hope to save his beloved Zoriana, his sisters, and other women. He learns valuable lessons from the sorceress Vedana and sets out to find his future warrior siblings: Vernydub and Krutyvus. Together, the boys overcome all obstacles in this inspiring story with driving music, extraordinary humour, and fiery interactive elements for children. "Kotyhoroshko against the Vikings" is not just a show for the family - it's an unforgettable experience!

Coriolanus

The play is based on the life of the legendary Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus. The tragedy is one of the last two tragedies written by Shakespeare. Coriolanus is the name given to a Roman general after his military success against various uprisings challenging the government of Rome. Following this success, Coriolanus becomes active in politics and seeks political leadership. His temperament is unsuited for popular leadership and he is quickly deposed, whereupon he aligns himself to set matters straight in his own will. The alliances he forges along the way is the result of his ultimate downfall.
